- Hi,
-
- I posted a while back about a problem I was having with my 4000 and a
- GVP HC+8 SCSI card. I was a bit vague on the details, so if anyone can
- help, here is a more in-depth version.
-
- I recently purchased a second hand A4000/030(25)with a 68882fpu
- clocked at 50Mhz. The motherboard is rev B, the CPU daughter board is
- rev 1. I have 16Mb of fast ram installed. I am usinf WB3.0 (Kickstart
- Ver 39.106, Disk version 39.29). I have a Super Buster rev 11 on the
- motherboard. I have an 850Mb IDE drive on the internal IDE bus.
-
- I have also purchased a GVP HC+8 Series II rev II SCSI controller, ROM
- version 4.13.
-
- I installed the controller into the 4000, with no attatched SCSI
- devices, and turned on, I held down both mouse buttons at boot up and
- went to the Expansion Board Diagnostic Screen, the board did not show.
- I turned off and rechecked all jumpers, I had no Ram installed on the
- GVP card. I turned back on and this time let the computer boot all the
- way up and tried various utilities; Sysinfo, Scout and Showconfig but
- the board still does not show.
-
- At this point I returned the board to the shop where I bought it and
- they slapped it onto one of their 4000's and it worked straight away.
- Although they do not repair computers they volunteered to have a look
- at my 4000 for me. They took my expansion daughter board off and tried
- it with another 4000, and that worked OK, they also tried it with a
- variety of SCSI devices on my machine, but to no avail. As the board
- was not faulty I have not returned it.
-
- I have tried taking 2x4Mb 32bit Simms off the motherboard and
- installing 2x4Mb 16 bit Simms on the GVP board, and reconfiguring the
- jumpers, but this did not make any difference.
-
- I am now stuck with a 4000 that works fine except for this board (I
- have not had the opurtunity to test any other boards), and a SCSI card
- that works on other machines. Can anyone help ??
-
- Someone suggested try a GURU Rom in the GVP card, does anyone know
- where I can get one in the UK ??
-
- And if all else fails, does anyone know of a UK company who repairs
- 4000s ? Name & Telephone number appreciated.
-
- I tried my local Escom shop but they denied all knowledge that 4000s
- existed and thought I was talking about a 2000 :(
-
- Any help greatly appreciated.
